That’s right, I bonked. what led me to such an event you might ask? well, it was within 2 miles of home, seconds after I stood up to power over a hill I normally stand on. I got light headed and it was over. I had to walk/coast the rest of the way home. this was on a 40 mile I’ve done numerous times that dips into augusta county and brings me home via weyers cave.
needless to say, today was so beautiful I rushed out the door without putting anything in my body other than a couple of oreos and some water. I’m not much of an athlete, but this is definitely the biggest wall I’ve ever hit. how ironic after reading Lance Armstrong’s It’s Not About the Bike, where he talks of bonking with one mile left in a triathlon (after leading most of the way) where all he had to eat was a cinnamon bun. alright, time to crash, peace.

so the past couple weeks have been a real test. after leaving my oldest sister and younger brother in florida, I returned to an empty house. my mom’s currently in china with the emhs touring choir and I’ve had about a triple dip of responsibilities being alone at home. animals (including myself) need and aren’t always getting fed. I was reminded of my mother’s flowers this morning when I woke up with eyes so dry and dehydrated I could barely open them. needless to say I think I salvaged a number of them (the flowers, not my eyes, but they’re okay too).
this experience kind of defines how I’ve been feeling since probably my senior year of high school. I feel like I’ve been driving free-willingly, but I don’t feel like I’ve really gotten anywhere. so many parts of my life are inconsistent and variable. I know next year in germany will give me new perspective and an opportunity to simplify…. I can’t freakin wait, I definitely feel like this part of my life is subsiding to a certain extent. I can barely take care of myself, let alone this house and numerous things for the rest of my family as I’m the only one currently in the hub, harrisonburg. I have to admit my admiration for my mother has grown 10-fold, and I can’t wait til she gets back so I can get back to my college-aged existence of nothingness… mmm…
well, time to pick up dog crap from the living-room floor, unload and load and unload the dishwasher, finish the laundry, find numerous bills and such for my sisters, buy my brother a train ticket, read, brush my teeth and lay in bed for an hour talking to myself and my other self about how crappy a male figure I am for my brother and all the 101 other things I need to take care of and do a better job at… peace.

well, I’m home in virginia. I spent the better part of the weekend and the past couple days in sarasota, florida visiting family. I made it home in just under 14 hours, which I presume to be some sort of record. I only stopped to fuel up, and got slightly less fuel mileage (around 48 mpg) due to slightly higher speeds.
